At one time there were significant differences between the F100, F250 and F350 trucks.

When Ford truck shopping it really seems the F350 is almost redundant?

The F150 is in it's own class with specs that supercede older heavier models.

The Super Duty F250 is a significant difference from the F150...

The F350 not so much over the F250

The next big jump over the F250 is the F450

Am I missing something?

The only way I would see the F350 going away is if the SD F250 abilities overlay the F450's. There may be less demand but Ford would give up market share if there were a gap between the F250 and F450. Chevy 3500 would step in and market the gap.

To me there is no comparison. For example my F350 has a payload rating of 3,900# while a comparable best case F250 work of be 2,500#

I was looking at towing specs and if anything it seemed a wash until the f450

We did go f250 and had it derated to 9900... seems crossing the 10k rating brings other things into play.

Not to mention the weight fees are quite substantial...

So the big difference is in payload... same engine/transmission and cab/box

Not much difference in the F-250 and the 350 SRW but there is a huge difference between the 250 and the 350 DRW. They don't offer a 250 DRW.

With 1/2 ton trucks approaching 3/4 capacities (in gas versions at least) it almost makes the 3/4 seem obsolete. For the minimal cost to upgrade from 250 to 350 srw you get a whole lot more truck. The problem is if you live in an area that hates 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and loves taxing them then you might be more inclined to stick with the 3/4 ton truck. A lot of people in my area are having to take overall cost AND weight into consideration because our local government is taxing trucks silly. I just paid $280 in taxes on a 10 year old 1/2 truck if that tells you anything. A new 3/4 truck with an msrp of say $50,000 would be INSANE in taxes around here and no they don't depreciate fast either (your tax bill might be $20-30) cheaper next year if you're lucky.

My 1985 3/4 chevrolet is still $200 a year for tags... and the governor wants to add a $100 across the board because vehicles are more fuel efficient and gas tax revenue is dropping.

The new truck left the Kentucky plant last week... it arrived locally Friday afternoon... Dealer says maybe Wednesday for delivery as they won't get to it for prep till Wednesday morning.

Good or bad... you can be sure I will post about it... my brother has owned two pickups... almost 40 model years apart... both Ford F250 with 4wd and now his son will have one in the middle with the 96.

I would imagine so... have heard plowing snow is the most common.

Yup, I used my F350 DRW to plow about 1/8 mile of Highway 72 near Muscle Shoals, Alabama when the Uhaul car dolly (w/car) lost a wheel back to the axle stub. It was a shallow furrow until I noticed it was pulling and got it to plow the side of the road.
