How many miles on your vehicle before sell or trade?

The last time I traded was 8 years ago this week. Bought a 2007.5 used Chevy Durmax with 33,000 miles. Didn't sleep at all that week because I was so sick about trading and getting a new vehicle payment. The truck I traded in was a perfectly fine 1/2 ton chevy with around 115,000 miles.

Anyway, I still DO NOT have the itch and finally learned my lesson. I think that vehicle bug has left me...to me, there are far cooler things to own out there like tractors. I WILL TRADE when I get to doing stuff like that.

Red, I think you answered your own question:thumbsup:
Vehicles are not a good place for your money from a strictly financial viewpoint. Enjoyment, pride & "its easy" is another thing, to each his own.
The "stupid money" they get for a pickup today would make me keep it forever if it were not for business use (write off).

My 2003 4.7L Tundra TRD 4x4 is coming up on 55K miles. :)

I've been pulling around a 7K pound dump trailer at altitude the last year. It's got me thinking I want a tow vehicle with a turbo.

Lot of you guys must drive a LOT....my 2003 Chevy 2500HD is just now breaking 90,000 miles.

Just traded my 11 GMC 1500 Crew cab with 192,000km/120,000 miles on it. The 07-13 GM are the biggest low quality POS GM has built.

The 04 that the POS 11 replaced had 350,000km/217,000 miles on it, was an excellent truck.

Bought a new 17 Ram 1500 Crew Cab 4x4. Happy, love it.

Last year I sold my 2003 silverado 1500 to my older son. It had 199,000 mile on it. I bought it new, end of year 2003. I bought a used 2013 silverado with 29,000 on it. I will keep it for as long as it will be reliable. Maybe the last one i need.

US brands, 100k about the max.
Honda - i keep till they have no value left, which is over 300k.

"US brands, 100k about max" ?

Gee, I sure hope not!
I bought my 1997 GMC K2500 4x4 Suburban in 2007, with 100k.
It is my tow vehicle (12k equipment trailer), but only gets used 3 or 4 times each year.
Now has 130k, and is stored for the winter. It is rust free (from Albuquerque)
Truly a beast of a vehicle, with a 454-V8.
I would expect it should go to 200k.
At my usage rate of less than 2k per year, when it hits 200k, I will be 112 years old.
Even if it only makes it to 150k I will be 87.
I kinda think I will no longer need a GMC 2500 tow vehicle at either of those ages.

I am wondering who buys vehicles with 200K or more miles on them. I certainly wouldn't. Lots of folks trade in at 100K and get a good price for the vehicle, 200K likely not so much. So what happens to those 200-300K vehicles when you trade them in?

My friend buys them. He has a SD 7.3L PS with 440K miles on it. Drives it daily.

My 2007 Dodge 5.9 cummins 6spd 4x4 dually quad cab has 21X,XXX and I have no intentions on getting rid of it any time soon. If I did over I would get an automatic due to some of the things I do with it.

My wife has a 2004 Dodge 5.9 cummins 2wd 3/4 ton quad cab automatic with 43X,XXX and we have no intentions of getting rid of it either. She wouldnt change anything and says it is perfect. I would change it to 4x4.

Big reason we wont get anything else is the price of these things new are ridiculous now. Replacing them new is more than I am willing to give up.

That's where I'm at. After my divorce, I traded my 2001 F250 for a Honda Accord (drove it 10yrs ~160K miles). Missed it ever since.

Have a 2009 GMC 1500 crew cab w/ about 120k that pulls a 2-horse trailer May thru October by wife; and

2006 Saab 9-5 with 253k that been good (initial front brake rotors lasted until 150k !) but I can't see spending $$ on little stuff (keyless entry, mirror control), then suspension, then exhaust, then clutch, then ....
