On the S-20 / 420, is the brake shaft seal replaceable without pulling apart the transaxle? It looks like it pulls out from the exterior on the parts diagram, but, when I look at the unit, it almost seems like presses in from the inside of the gearcase (meaning you would have to dismantle it all), or it's a very narrow seal.

Thanks!

Well I gave it a shot - I was able to pull the seal out without any trouble without disassembly. It looked weird as the seal is so narrow - Dimensions are 1.375X1.00X0.25, SKF number 9826 / National 252277. Also pulled the main pump control shaft seal, SKF 6763, crosses to National 252277. Hopefully these stop the small leaks I have.

One of your National numbers is wrong, but big deal. Put some heavy grease or silicone grease on the seal lips before installing to help avoid nicks.

You're right, sorry:

SKF 6763 - National 474261
SKF 9826 - National 252277

Both seals stopped the leaks.
