    I'm wondering how the driver was able keep the wheels of the car from slipping off the tracks.

    Just lowered the tire pressure and let the tires track on the rail.

    I'm thinking a modern car might deploy air bags on hookup.

    Oh say it ain't so! Surely not back in the good 'ol days when GM was supreme, everything was made in USA, quality was flawless everybody went to church and unemployment rate was only...um...19%?

    A modern car would just crumple like a piece of paper. They have no frame now days, just a unibody.
