Why is it every time I lay my welding helmet down
it rolls over on to the lens. I know it's just a cheap
harbor freight auto darkening helmet to most people.
But the dang thing cost me $50. I want it to last.
But every time I lay it down it rolls over on the lens.

Same thing happens with my clear face shield.
I'll be grinding something and lay it down
and it always lands on the clear shield.

I can lay either one down just as careful as can be.
But it always rolls over on the lens.

Is it just me or what.

That is called GRAVITY!
LOL
The heavy side will always end up at the bottom.

I always hang mine on a hook or handy nail.

Also for some reason my right ear always gets pinched whenever I flip the mask down. Ouch!

The good thing Pooh is that there is a cheap plastic cover, over the expensive (well, relatively) electronic lens.

That said, you can add a little something to the front of your helmet so it does not hit the lens when laying face down.

I just change the clear lens fairly regularly myself. They get pretty nasty, pretty quick.

Lift it up first, then take off your head. Mine doesn't do the turtle thing. :D

I did just use the replacement "glass" on my HF helment. It's about 2 years old now.

The same theory as to why the single donut goes straight to my wife's butt.
I wanna know why when I lay mine down,it disappears for an extended period of time??
You can find a cop quicker than the helmet I had on my head three minutes ago.

How about just squirting four big gobs of silicone caulk onto the helmet, one at each corner of the lens next time you have a tube open. After the caulk cures it'll cushion your helmet face from a flat surface. Not sure how well it takes to hot steel, though.

Well, if you put it down really carefully like you say, and it still rolls over, maybe your shop is on a really steep slope.

Maybe you should by one of these.

Miller - Elite™ Series Welding Helmets

Went I stop smoking I bought the inferno model and it works great.

I don't see how that's going to help him. Now he's scratching up a $300 helmet instead of a $50 one.

It reminds of the two seater outhouse. Joe is sitting there when Harry comes in. A quarter falls out of Harry's pocket and down the hole as he gets ready to sit down. When Harry's business is done he pulls a $20 bill out of his pocket and throws it down the hole. Noticing that Joe is obviously taken aback Harry explains, "There was no way I'd go in there just for a quarter!"

How many times have you seen someone do something similar...Throw more money at it so that it makes it worth saving.

I weld outside in the dirt in front of my shed.
Almost flat but does have some slope.
Helmet always rolls over and puts the lens in the dirt.
I'm gonna have to put some hooks out there to hang it on.
