Just go a Everlast 200 amp inverter welder. My prized Linde Heliarc 250 went bad last summer and I've been in a panic on what to do.
I decided to try an inverter welder. I really like my copper and iron inductors for DC. But Wow, this thing is nice great arc control. I tried 5/32 on 5/16 plate and 3/32 on 14 Ga Sq tube and 1/16 on 16Ga 1/2x1/2 Sq tube stuck to a 3/8" plate. Really nice and well built.
Here is a pic of 1/16" 6013 rod weld. The tube is 1/2 Sq 16Ga or it might be 18Ga. Thats the ground clamp on the right. The arc flow/spray of inverters is definitely as people describe.
If their plasma is as good as their welders that is next on the list.
