Northern Industrial Arc 200 230 Volt, 200 Amp Arc Welder, Model AC4180 | Arc Welders | Northern Tool + Equipment

anyone have or use one of these?

was just browsing the northern catalog and man o man.. that is cheap amps.

with normal entry level welders being the lincoln and hobart ac only stick models, that have now risen to about 300$ new, and used to be about 235 ( hobart at tsc ) to 250 ( lincoln at lowes ) from about 5 years ago when i checked prices ( and 229$ campbel hausfeld stick welder )...

wow.. 150$ makes you really set back and think if you are looking for an entry level welder for incedental use.

that's as cheap as buying a 30 year old tombstone at a yardsale nowadays.

anyone got specs on them? like duty cycle.. which I will just guess is quite low.. 180a / 10% wonder what it is at 90-100a which is where alot of welding for regualr farm stuff happens.

50# or so.. that's a bit lighter than my hobart stickmate!

i can't believe it's price.. 150$.. I'd love to see one in action / lay a bead with it to see how it runs. really DO wonder what it's duty cycle is at 95a :) On my stickmate it's 100% till you get to 100a.. which I like as I do most of my welding at 90-100a :)

Those of course are chinese transformer welders. I could sell them all day long for that price, because they cost almost nothing  But they should be ok. There's any number of companies producing the exact same model or similar unit. Some are super high quality, while some are very low. IF northern is selling it, then it should be in the midrange. But IF you are looking for cheap amps, we have a brand new unit: The PowerArc 140 ST 110/220 with good performance specs for just a little more than that.

Hey Soundguy, I know this is a bit more money, I paid $200.00 for this old thing. But I guarantee it has a better arc than that Northern tool machine! :D
