What should the settings be? Ranger 9
Guys
I am borrowing a Lincoln electric ranger 9 to weld some 1/2" steel brackets onto my land pride box blade. What should the settings be and what type of rod should I use?
I don't know much about welding and nothing about the settings. I have welded before but people have always setup the welder for me.
I could really use your help

I would set it on DC+, use 1/8-inch 7018, for flat welding I'd set the main selector at 160-max, and adjust the fine tune as needed. For vertical up I'd set the main selector at 120-max, and adjust the fine tune as needed.

Remember all those settings have the blue background, don't switch anything to a Mig setting / CV!

Ditto, I have the same unit. Poor thing sits and collects dust waiting to save the day.

Out of curiosity Piston, do you have the manual for the welder? I would think Lincoln would have a cheat sheet of settings to use.
If you don't have the manual. I'll bet it's on Lincoln's website.
Stuff I've made and done with my JD 4200. https://picasaweb.google.com/1101061...fgl=true&pli=1

Piston, that is a excellent machine you are using however, on 1/2 steel I would stay with 7018 but prior to welding I would spend time with your grinder for prep. on the job. I just finished a replacing a battery box on my 580D CK

Unfortunately I don't have a manual for the welder. I'll try out the settings mentioned and go from there. That's a good idea about looking on the website.
I'm excited to try it out on the box blade. I would have the other day but ran out of oxygen for the torches so I couldn't cut the steel. I just refilled so maybe I'll get to do some hurricane welding tomorrow
