One other thing that I had go wrong with mine, the rivet on the clamp was not properly set and after a year or so of use, the "jaw" fell off.
I was going to just get another clamp, but after looking around I discovered that what I had was better than most. I dug through my used hardware tub and found a copper carriage bolt that was probably 50 years old and bolted the jaw back on. Good as new!
