This weekend, the bracket broke off the 3 pt arm to which the sway arm mounts. Is there anything special about welding to the 3 pt hitch arm that I should consider before rewelding the bracket back on?

Are the list arms forged?

Usually the brackets are riveted or bolted on. Guess not this time?? As to welding on the lift arm. A professional welder could probably do it successfully by knowing the temperament of the iron he is working with. For me it would be a guess. Problem would be the welding could make the arm brittle and cause it to break. Can you post a pic??

You'll have to determine exactly what thew arm is made of for optimum results.

It's not rocket surgery. Whether the arm is forged or hot/cold rolled, you can weld a bracket to it. The question is whether you can weld.

True that!!! But still, have you ever saw a sway bracket that's welded to the lift arm???
