Was spot welding some casters on to the base of a patio umbrella stand and after two casters complete I suddenly got no arc. ZERO. I checked my ground clamp. Cleaned the tip on the gun. Tried on manual and auto set. Nothing. Any clues??? Not many hours on this unit. Still on my first large spool! Only a few year old machine.

Does that welder happen to have a reset button?
If you can't get it to work, take it to American Equipment service in Kent.

Whatever you do, don't take it to Precision Welder Repair in Seattle!!!!!:thumbdown: They had one of my welder for 45-weeks:mad::mad:! Dave Kruger has no problem lying to you about when your welder will be ready!:thumbdown:

Looking for the manual now. Didn't see a reset button but did cycle on/off.

Problem solved! Project done. :cool2:

Found the manual. No reset. Put a new tip on. Re-checked the ground clamp. Looks spot faced back side of base to double contact area. Realized the weight of the ground wire was lifting off the clamp just slightly from the area I ground to bright so only backside of clamp was contacting a baked enamel finish.

I should've known something was up because it worked fine on one cross member and when I moved the ground to the other, even though it looked like it was contacting bare metal, I guess it wasn't. Stupid me. :duh:

I like this type of ground clamp.

Yeah I am now definitely in the market to upgrade my stock clamp. It's too light with a weak spring not to get overpowered by the dang wire! :smiley_aafz:

That's about all we got on the job. They work great too!
I should say, we always got the 400-amp ones.
