Good afternoon all- I have "perused" TBN for quite some time, but finally got around to setting up an account. I live at the end of a half mile dirt road in Maine, and up to this year had plowed it with an '86 F350 w/ 460BB. I had gotten a good deal on the truck- and it plows like the devil when it runs, but I have had enough with its lack of reliability. I want to replace the truck with a tractor for its added versatility.
To cut a long story short I have winnowed my choices down to a new MF1742 and a leftover Tier 3 Yanmar LX4500 (0.6 hrs.). I am really leaning towards the Yanmar, there was nothing I seriously disliked about the tractor but am questioning the limited dealer network and low(er) volume of other LX's out there. Down the road (after winter ends) I plan on using the tractor for road maintenance, Bush hogging, perhaps throw on a chipper and maybe a winch for logging. In searching through older posts- the other Yanmar owners seemed to be happy with their machines? Also R1 vs R4 tires for either of these machines? I wanted to throw a line out there and see if there were any different information, experiences, or opinions. Thanks!
