3 Yanmars
hi, on my older "American" yanmar (it's a Yanmar 169d 16hp 4x4) I have a JD375 dozer blade. This blade consists of a up/down cylinder, and a left and a right cylinder. It all still works pretty well. Except, one of the cylinders is leaking pretty badly. Beyond replacing one of the cylinders, is there something else I can do? E.g. repacking the cylinder, replacing seals, etc. Any ideas and or suggestions is greatly appreciated. :)

Arthur,
Around here there are several hydraulics shops, who deal with nothing but hydraulics. If you can find one near you, there should be no problem rebuilding the cylinder you have. I couldn't guess how much it would cost, but i can't imagine it would be too bad.

If cylinder and rod are in good condition all you should need is a seal kit. Any hydro shop can supply them. If rod is pitted then a machine shop should be able to fabracate a new one for about $100. If cylinder is damaged then there is not much you can do other than buy a whole new assembly.

Like Scott said find a local hydraulic shop. They will usually be less expensive than a tractor dealer and they will have the packing in stock.

You might consider opening it and replacing the seals. If it's a JD blade then the correct part numbers are known.

I took one of my loader curl cylinders in to the local hydraulic shop. They charged $165 and said they had to straighten the rod. This is possible. With the curl fully extended, the side of the rod rests on the loader arm. (see my sig photos). I was a little surprised they went double their estimate without calling me.

Thanks for all the responses, folks. Looks like I'll be looking for a somewhat local hydraulic shop. I was going to take it apart, but drove by the local green tractor dealer today to find that they've become a cub cadet dealer?
