Installing Alternator instead of generator on YM146?

Has anyone every installed a alternator and replacing the generator on a YM146 or simular tractor? The reason I am thinking of doing this is because the voltage regulators keep going out I have replaced it 3 times.

I looked for a link to an older post but couldn't find it...and I still don't know if anyone has actually made the conversion, but here is a simple attachment of the GM 1 wire alternator popular on street rods and customized applications.

If I remember correctly a 60+amp alternator listed for $79.

I am installing a GM CS130 alternator on my 2000BD and was going to make a conversion kit.

I guess I was not fast enough.......

The CS130 has several advantages over the 10SI. It has better cooling, is smaller, and has better low rpm performance (important on a diesel engine).

It can also be hooked up with a one wire configuration, but since I already have an alternator light, I want to keep it.

If the company addressed smaller Yanmars I would be very interested. The design and package is complete and ready to install. That's very simple and looks rugged enough for any tractor application.

Wonder why it's for the 3T80 and 3T84 engines only??

And the whole kit, including the alternator is cheaper than a voltage regulator?

Shouldn't someone have done this 10 years ago?

I am looking at using a racing alternator with a 3.86" 93mm case made by Denso. It should work great I can rotate the alternator up. I will make a mounting bracket and it will sit under the air intake pipe and above the radiator hose exchange pipe. I will post pics latter. The only problem that I have been warned about is the charging voltage on one unit is 14.9V and on the other it is 14.0V. I was told that the 14.9V unit will boil the water out of the battery.

I'd go with the 14V model as the 14.9 will over charge the battery if engine is run very long.

Thank you I have ordered a mini alternator from db-electric that charges at 14.2V and is very small 93mm diameter 3.86" and about 4.5" long. It is a 3 wire hook up.

Do you have a link showing this unit? If I could find a gap between some of my over-burdened honeydew list activities, I would like to see if it could be adapted to my 1500D.
