IS YANMAR 1300 WORTH $1800.00

I HAVE FOUND A YANMAR 1300, 4X4, STANDARD TRANS, 1050 HOURS, 16 HP.
PROBABLY MADE IN THE MIDDLE 1980'S. PLANNING ON USING IT IN THE GARDEN WITH SMALL TILLER AND AROUND THE LAND. WILL PULL TREES OUT OF THE WOODS WITH A BOOM. BIGGEST TREE WILL BE BOUT 10 INCHES ACROSS. HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SMALL TRACTOR??
IS IT WORTH THE MONEY????

I would say that running a small tiller and general purpose gardening/landscaping would be perfect for this size tractor. The log skidding is something else. Depending on the type of tree and the length, the tree could end up weighing more than the tractor. Also be careful using a boom. Tractors are designed to pull from the drawbar. If you lift too high with a boom, you can drastically change the balance of the tractor and cause it to turn over, or worse, rotate on the rear axle and flip you backwards! To that point, if you're going to seriously skid logs, make sure the tractor has a ROPS in good working order.

As a tiller, it would be a good little unit and $1800 seems a good price if in good condition. I would strongly advise you to let go of the idea of pulling a 10 inch log unless it's Balsa wood. I think skidding logs would be the end of your tractor and worse, you could be hurt or killed. If skidding timber is an important part of your plans, I would pass and look at a bigger unit.

You won't go wrong buying a yanmar! I own a F16D, 19hp. Use it for skidding logs, but only from the drawbar. It will pull about any size, traction is the major issue. So I have to agree with MFL, it would be perfect for small tiller and general purpose gardening/landscaping. You just have to pay attention to what is going on around you when skidding logs, especially anything that you lift above the axle. Any sudden drop off in a hole or over a stump and whoops over ya go.
Welcome to the board. Lots of good and helpful information here. As for the price for just a tractor I would say jump on it. I only gave 1200 for mine, but I had to put another 1500 in the drivetrain.

I APPRECIATE THE FEED BACK. AS FAR AS SKIDDING LOGS, MOST OF WHAT I AM CUTTING DOWN IS AROUND 3-6 INCHES. IF I DID SKID A 10 INCHER I WOULD CUT IT INTO 4 FOOT LENGTHS. I AM TRYING TO CLEAR A SMALL AREA FOR ANIMALS. I OWNED A YANMAR 2000 4X2 WITH A BUCKET AND IT RAN GOOD, BUT WHEN I USED THE BUCKET THE BACK TIRES WOULD LOOSE TRACTION, I EVEN TIED A SCRAPER BLADE ON THE END OF THE BOOM BUT THAT GOT IN THE WAY. I SOLD IT!!!! PLUS IT WAS BIGGER THAN WHAT I NEEDED... THANKS,, GUESS I'LL GO GET IT...

Oh, so you know about yannie's toughness then. Mine had the same problem with traction. Until till I made some wheel weights. Found severals ways to do it on tractorbynet. Just do a search. I did mine with concrete molds. Helps out alot. I have had mine over 2 years now, and it has done everything I ask it to and then some!

Welcome to TBN!! It sounds like it is a good deal on a great little tractor. The 2 cyl makes a distinctive sound, especially under load. Check it over carefully, but it sounds like it will do what you need.

One word about posting on the net. Since there are not many ways to show voice inflection when writing, ALL CAPS is reserved for SHOUTING. So not only is it harder to read fast it is conveying something that you did not intend, I don't think so anyway.
