I've had this tractor about a year.. 12 hours use in that time. Always garaged. Noticed a little (2 oz) gear lubey medium brown colored looking material dripped on the inside bottom of the left wheel yesterday AM. Used tractor 2 hrs and the leak is a-leaking alot more now. No crunching or grinding. What ails it? Is it hard to fix with "regular tools"? Looks to be coming from the upper side of the drive hub.
Normally it is the knuckle seal that starts to leak. It is the big (appx 5") seal that seals the 2 front gearboxes when you turn. You can do a search in the Yanmar forum for "knuckle seal" and there are a lot of discussions about replacing it. It is pretty easy though. Takes us about 30min if all goes well. There is also the smaller axle seal right behind the wheel. It is slightly harder but a good time to replace it is when you replace the knuckle seal.
