Yanmar YM180D
Hello all,
I just picked up my first tractor. It is a YM180D with a YFL165 loader. I have been looking all over for a Yanmar and just when I had about given up there it was. It is a bit of an ugly duckling but everything works great. The only thing that seems to need attention is one of the rear hubs which is loose. The axle is an octagon along with the hub similar I think to a ym186 or 187 and some of the other small no greys. My question is what is the best way of fixing it? Anyone had a similar problem?

Hubs are not an octagon. Loosen both cap screws and then tighten right cap screw first. That should do it unless it has been run loose for awhile.

That is what the hub looks like but the set screws are turned all of the way in already. I was thinking sheet metal shims but maybe I can buy a hub and slide it on a different part of the axle? Does the ym155 hub fit a 180 axle?

Your absolutely right. The hub is 6 pointed. I am at work and going from memory. I will try to tighten the cap screws in that order on a different spot tomorrow.

The hub bore is designed as non-hexagonal that's why the right bolt gets tightened first. Tighten to 72 lb. ft or 98 Nm.

tighten right cap screw first.

Right = the one farthest from us in the Hoye photo? Why does it make a difference?

Mine are reversed for maximum width with those cap screws on the inner side of the tire. Does that change which gets tightened first? Seems to me if the sequence makes any difference it should be expressed as 'leading bolt/trailing bolt' while driving forward, no? There has to be some reason for the recommended sequence but it escapes me.

Dave, I wonder if your set screws are what was in there originally. Do you see any evidence remaining that there were springs as shown in the photo?

California, click on the paper clip to see if I did this right. If not tell me what to do to upload it. (Never mind I stumbled to success anyway.)

IMO A,B Tightening Bolts must have come loose at one time? If they are tight and there is still Wabble then the hub is most likely Worn on the Inner/Outer Edges. If that is the case you should be able to Shim up the E,F edges to prevent it from wobbling. Once you get them in and thickness needed might want to put a tack weld on them to hold them in place. I'm doubtful the axle has worn.
Either or should be able to shim them up or replace the hubs.

My 165D is set up the same way. One hub was loose, and it looked as though the tensioning bolts had worn to where they wouldn't make good contact, even when fully tightened down against the spring. The shaft was fine, so I replaced the bolts with a couple of slightly-longer 16mm, problem solved.

Congratulations on your new toy!
