Steering Wheel Removal
Do I need a puller to remove the steering wheel?
I'm drilling holes on my dash for guages and the wheel is in the way...
thanks

I wouldn't say outright that you won't need one, but I have had mine off twice and never had to use a puller to do it. Take off the plastic dust cap and there is a retaining nut undeneath. A little manual umph and it popped right off.

I also rapped on the center with a rubber mallet to break it lose.

Re: Steering Wheel Removal
You loosen the nut, pull up hard on both sides of the steering wheel while your helper gives that nut one sharp rap with a hammer. Just a couple of things to remember. First, back the nut off, but don't take it completely off for two reasons: (1) you don't want to damage the threads when you hit it with the hammer, and (2) when the steering wheel comes loose, you don't want to hit yourself in the nose with it. And nope, I never hurt myself that way, but my brother sure bloodied his nose on the first steering wheel he pulled.

Re: Steering Wheel Removal
Steering wheel pullers are super cheap, ($5 or $6). I wouldn't sweat too much over it before buying one.

Thanks guys - I tried most of those things, but not too hard.
I'll be more serious this time.

Re: Steering Wheel Removal
When all else fails, soak it with good old " PB Blaster " for a couple days.
