Hi all Yami's

what is the difference between the 180 & 186's???

I own a 1989 180D; and just got a parts manual for a 186D; but see little difference in the parts; are they 100% parts compatable?

the engine model is the same except has a 3HA72"-N" on the end; what doesthe N designation mean?

I beleive the 186'sd are the next generation of the 180's; they may have the shift on the fly transmission; they look similar but newer; I could post 180 specs if needed ...

YM186D was about 1980 to 1985, followed by YM187D 1986-90 approximately. YM187 was longer, a little more knee room, and had a better Powershift. It was essentially the same as YM186 with improvements.

Both have Powershift. It's more than shift-on-the-fly, it's about the same as an automobile AT without the torque converter. The gears are constant-mesh. Shove the shift lever, and that sends hydraulic pressure to engage a different gear's clutch.

I could be wrong but I thought YM180 was the manual-transmission version of YM187.

In all cases, the D suffix means 4 wheel drive.

As California said, the 180 and 187 are the manual and Powershift versions of the same tractor, respectively. I have a brochure posted here for them. (Thanks to Scotty Dive for providing these.) You can compare them to the 186 series brochure here, shared with me by rScotty.

I think, basically, the 187/180 is the upgrade/follow on to the 186, with a stretched wheelbase to allow better operation of a mid mount mower and things.

Yes the 180 has a totally manual shift 4 x high / low ... tough to shift into 4 high and goes about 20 MPH max speed in 4H. (as an aside ...How is one to properly change gears to 4 high? Almost impossible to start form a standstill in 4 H; I can manage to try to mesh as I go; but get some grinding ...)

International ... good explanation in the brochure's; thanks!
