I though the power was transferred to the solenoid at that moment.
There should be 0 volts at that small wire on the solenoid until the key is turned to the crank position, not the on position. I think that is what we are both saying.

One large wire on the solenoid comes straight from the battery. If you are jumping from that wire to the small wire and it turns over every time that is saying your solenoid is good.

    Not meaning to confuse you.

By doing what you just described your taking the switch out of it!! That just tells you the solonoid is working! All your doing is manually being the switch with your hand and that wire. The switch for it to actually start will momuntarily take "always hot " connection and as u turn it complete a circuit sending power to the solonoid allowing it to switch the power internally to the starter.

I don't guarantee it, but I don't think you have to remove either. I believe if you loosen the dynamo, disconnect the bottom radiator hose at the radiator, you can then remove the belt. It is a little tricky getting it around the fan and shroud but it will come out of there.

And - Don't mess with the water pump.

Maybe loosen the radiator holddowns and tilt it forward? You might have to loosen the fan from the pump to tilt its blades too.

I did this project on the YM240 when I bought it but don't remember the details. It wasn't particularly difficult.

Fan Shroud for theo 2000. Then you can easily get the belt around the blades and water pump. 2 10mm I believe on the top.

My bad guys something told me to go out and look I had to remove the Water Pump Hose als. Philips head or 10mm at the Pump. Used a Bucket to catch what little bit of Anti-freeze. Only took a Sec.
