In search of a hood for my 186D

I turn to the Yanmar guys for help!

I was the lucky recipient of a 186D with a 650 FEL from my brother-in-law last summer. It was neglected and rusty, but mechanically it ran ok. It sat for five years in a shed and I spent a day getting the fluids changed out. A few cranks with fresh #2 and she fired right up.

Of course, most everything is available through Hoye's, but I'm in serious need of a hood. The current hood is rusted badly around the bottom edge and it's really not worth trying to fix before getting it repainted.

I found one hood at the West Kentucky Tractor Parts place, but they want $450 and shipping on top of that... ouch... (and they haven't told me what the charge would be yet)

Anyone know of a 186 that's being parted out? Does anyone know of other models with the same size hood?

I don't know what a hood for a 186 looks like but, B-4 I paid for $400.00 plus shipping, I would take my old hood to a metal fab shop and see what they would charge to fab 1 up. I have a friend here that works at a metal fab shop and he says they will make anything for $$$ Or, take your's to a body shop and see if they can make repairs to your old hood..

Don't know the difference between a 186 and 187 but a little over a year ago Hoye advertised they had gotton in a 187 parts tractor. No idea just what was on it

I think there are some differences but I sort of think a 1510 would fit also. Just an opinion, sure not a fact. :2cents:

I'll ramble a little more. Here is a parts 1601. The guy is only asking 650 for the whole tractor. No idea at this point whether the hood is even similar to a 186 but I may do some looking. This guy in Eugene area, Oregon runs ads on Craigslist listing what he is scrapping. Almost all subcompacts. I've never dealt with him.

What a great find. He's got a 155 and 169D which I suspect may be the same as our 186Ds. I've sent a note to Hoye's to see if they know which models have the same hood.

I was going to use this option as my last resort. I was also thinking of going to my daughter's high school and see if their metal shop would undertake the project. I'd do it myself if I had a TIG welder, but I don't think my wife would agree.....

An update....

The 169D is identical to the 186D hood. I'll give Raffi a call and maybe he can send me a pic and price. Thanks for the tip!!

What is shipping on something like this $100-$200.00 ??

I'd guess around $100, but I may be underestimating. I think you could either box it up or bubble wrap and send it as is. It's pretty sturdy. The weight is maybe around 35lbs?????
