F14D

The F14D has a HYD./TRANS. filter. Does it also have a pick up screen that should be cleaned?

Guess thare are not many F14 owners out there!

There are 2 styles on the F14.

1-> There is a screen just behind the piece that the HYD filter screws onto. Remove the rubber elbow (hose clamps) and remove the 3 bolts that holds the filter assy. on.

2-> The screen is behind the long steel tube that connects to the filter base with a rubber joint at one end and a 3 bolt flange at the other. Remove the rubber hose coupling and remove the same 3 bolts.

The screen just pulls out.

by the way..... drain the oil BEFORE you do this unless you want a bath /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Ditto on Aaron's post. You will get hosed with hyd fluid if you dont drain it first. Makes it a lot less messy if you can drain and let stand for a couple days to get done dripping first. Screens clean easily with some spray parts cleaner or spray engine cleaner. IF there was moisture in the tranny as well you may have some hand lotion consistency stuff on the filter. I like to dump a gallon or so of diesel through the trans to rinse as much goo out as I can before putting the plug and new fluid in. Just leave the plug out and dump the fluid in the top. You could even put the plug in and rock the tractor back and forth by hand to swish it around in the pan before draining. Works pretty good, be suprised what you get out sometimes.
