Re: 1500d front seal won\'t seal?

But, I connot get the lower housing to sit up in the upper housing all the way to seal the seal. It needs to go up another 1/16" or so. I thought the weight of the tractor would push it up the rest of the way up. After the weight of the tractor was on it I tapped the top with a hammer to try to seat it. No luck!! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Is their a trick or somthing I should do? It now leaks like a sieve.. Didn't before.. Any help would be appriciated.. Jay

Re: 1500d front seal won\'t seal?

I've had the left side on my 1500D apart a number of times and sometimes I have a little problem seating the bottom into the top. To get it right, I would just take it down and wiggle and reseat and till it was right.

Re: 1500d front seal won\'t seal?

When the damage occured to the front outer drive housing, you may have deformed the upper or lower sealing areas. Even a small 'nick' may prevent proper sealing.

Did you completely remove the outer drive housing when you put it back together? On a bench top, you should be able to assemble the upper/lower halves and seat the unit completely.

If this was done in the field, there could be a small stone or some similar obstruction blocking proper assembly.

I've rebuilt the outer drive housings on my 1500D twice now, and some of the components (gears & shafts) can be very difficult and very expen$ive to find out there. Great pics!!! It's nice to know there are others out there working the living daylights out these little tractors! Holler if you need more assistance with the outer drive housings. Good Luck!!!!!

Re: 1500d front seal won\'t seal?

Thanks, for the replies... When the rain stops I'll take it apart again. When I put it back together the last time, I wiped the inside of the upper houseing out to get any "stuff" that should be in thier out. I also thought it may have been knicked, I didn't feel any burrs or knicks, that's what puzzels me. That "should" just slide in..

The pictures really don't do much justice.. The one piece of concrete was about 6' x 6' x 10" thick!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I had my dad and wife on the front end for weight.... I wish I could have gotten a picture of that!!

No.. I didn't get it yet... I will /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
