- 1987 Yanmar YM-220
Voltage Regulator
I have a yanmar YM-220, the charging light is staying on, it has the little 2 wire alt. how can I check to see if the reg. is working , can any of the parts stores like napa check this, if I take it off?

I would think any parts store can check that alternator, and if it's putting out correctly, you'll probably need a regulator. Check that all the ground connections are good first tho........

Disconnect 2 alternator wires . Connect alternator wires to AC voltmeter. Run tractor at about full throttle. Output should be 20-30 volts AC. Don't run any longer than neccesary as damage may occur. If alternator is putting out sufficient voltage , regulator is probably bad.
