John Deere 970TLB,
Good morning,
Does anyone who owns a yanmar have the factory screen that goes in front of the radiator?? Think I need one, and looks easy enough to make, just wondering what size mesh the factory used?? Removed the radiator yesterday cleaning it up and flushing the cooling system and noticed that the radiator was half plugged with junk from running the rough cut mower. Would be much easier to clean the slide out screen than remove the radiator. Also changed coolant and added a Napa block heater to the lower hose. A YM 3000 used a 1 1/16" hose unit , the output is 375 watts, cost less than $40. If someone has that screen in front of the radiator would appreciate a report on what size the mesh of the screen is, thanks,
Chris

The screen looks like a metal version of my window screens, pretty fine. Not sure how detailed you would like. Unfortunatly mine is in for the warranty service so a picture isnt possible right now. However some of the other guys may be able to help.

Here's a pic showing the original screen on my YM240 (YM2000). I think the mesh is the same as on 50 year old houses.

The screen has a folded-over border, a handle in the top center, and clips to hold it in place. One clip is visible below the air intake hose.

This photo also documents the overflow system I made from transparent tubing, a Tupperware juice pitcher, and a couple of screw type hose clamps attached end to end for adequate length. I recommend a pitcher of half this capacity, because I've never seen the coolant rise more than an inch in this one.

Chris,
I'm not at home so I can't measure the screen on my 2000B, but I think the reference to 50 year old window screen was pretty accurate. After you install your screen, Just be sure and rinse the radiator core out behind the screen on a regular basis as it will still get clogged.

California, I'll bet your poor Yanmar is embarrassed to have that water pitcher hung on it. Every autoparts store carries generic coolant overflow kits for just a few $ that work just fine.

Thanks for the picture Cal,
That is exactly what I'll make. Most of the stuff getting into the radiator core is the size of grass clippings and that should keep it out well. Nice morning over here, 4 degrees and clear at 7am. Block heater still had the tractor @ 100 degrees. Think I'm ready for the snow, Thanks again.

Man you guys are a rough audience today.

I started with the rectangular bottle kit from Autozone but found there was no way to hang it on the existing mount. This was plan B.

You can see from my photos that aesthetics doesn't count for much. But this and glass tube fuses are now the only non-authentic parts on the tractor. Plus the big tires but it came with those.

Sheesh! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I thought the rubbermaid pitcher was a nice add! It kinda made me thirsty! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
