It's dusty around here! And I use my YM2500 for grading the road, which is even dustier work. I got tired of replacing air filters every 25 hours, so I made up an improved intake. It uses a washable oiled AFE air filter that's 5" high, 3" in diameter and has a 2" flange. The connecting pipe is a piece of 2" exhaust pipe with a 90-degree bend done by a muffler shop, and the connecting joint to the intake manifold is a chunk of straight 2" ID universal rubber hose from NAPA.
The housing is a piece of 6" thinwall plastic irrigation or drain pipe, there is an end cap for same glued to the top. Below the filter is a brace made of 1/4" mesh galvanized hardware screen. A 1-3/4" long 3/8" bolt, several flat washers and a wing nut hold it all together.
The pipe is braced in the middle of the bend with a small hardware store angle bracket attached to the loader frame. Those without a loader are going to have to come up with an alternative bracing scheme.
This is a MUCH better intake than the wussy original, it's indefinitely washable and engine performance is improved, much lower restriction. Being situated higher from the ground is a benefit. There is considerably more engine noise from the intake, if adding a throaty rumble is a problem, don't do it.
I've used washable AFE filters on my diesel pickups for years, and they work very well. The inside of my intakes have always been spotlessly clean after years of use.
Easy, fun and worthwhile weekend project. I like the "Big Rig " look, too!
