Just for kicks, I have been looking at the specs and prices on the 5500 and 6000 Mahindras that seem to be gaining in popularity, in the new Mahindra section.
The Range 1 Zetor tractors ( ie. the 4341 4WD Zetor compared to a 6000 Mahindra 4WD) are not even in the same class, but from a price standpoint are not far off.
Since this is a forum of comparisons, I am wondering if those who are shopping are really seeing all the options out there.
To compare the two above:

Zetor 4341.0 4WD---- Mahindra 6000 4WD

HP---------59------------------------- 59
Weight---- 7020 lbs. --------------- 4966 lbs.
Hydraulics--18GPM------------------ 11GPM
Trans------- 10F-2R----------------- 8F-2R
Brakes----- wet disc---------------- dry disc
Clutch------Independent----------- 2 stage
Lift cap. -- 6830 lbs.-------------- 3968 lbs.
Deck ------ flat---------------------- straddle the hump
3 pt.------- Telescoping stabilizers
& extending linkage--------------------??
Air compressor----standard----------- N/A

I am not trying to pick a fight, but am just wondering if shoppers are looking at this line, that has been around for 57 years and are available from 42HP to 81HP in 2WD or 4WD, open or cab.

I admiit, I am somewhat predudiced (sp?) , but I am also wondering if I am missing something here.

Hey Dan,

I don't think your missing anything. I think the Mahindra is gaining popularity because it is not that far of a leap from a CUT. Where as the Zetor offering is more like an ag tractor to most. The Zetor does offer things that Mahindra does not. It's amazing how much of an unknown Zetor is even today.

I agree. Zetor has some really stong points and, as Woodbeef has said, they are not CUTs or even close. Great HP to $$ ratio but a rather thin dealer network (at least up here in Ontario).

dancce,

You didn't compare prices. Care to tell us about what a Zetor 4341 sells for?

The same here in North Texas. The dealers are few and far between.

I seriously considered a Zetor 4341 but did not need that large of a tractor. It would not fit in my existing tractor shed. I really did not need that much HP. I went with the Mahindra4500 4WD. One big factor was the 0% financing for three years. The Zetor dealership near me is small and one-owner operation(elderly gent) and what happens when he checks out? He also did not have a FEL in stock and was not sure when it might come in, which was not very reassuring. I would also like to clarify some of your info you used for comparison. The 18GPM(Zetor) is a combination of 14GPM main hyd pump and a 4GPM dedicated power steering pump. All "00" series 4WD Mahindras have independant PTO, shuttle shift and wet disc brakes. The Zetor does have a cleaner deck layout, but I do not consider myself as straddling a hump on the Mahindra. I did use a Ford 4000 last year to square bale with and you definetely straddled the hump on that (the new Farmtrac's would be like that). Indeed, the Zetor telescoping lift arms and on-board 4CFM air pump are very nice, Mahindra could and should offer those( I would gladly field test them for Mahindra /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). I priced both models you cited with FEL and they were around $21,900, but you are correct about the Zetor being a bigger, heavier machine. I probably would have bought one if Zetor had offered 0% financing since I had not looked at a Mahindra at the time, but I just do not need that big of a tractor. After continuing my search and reading all the positive comments on TBN about Mahindra, I located a dealer and decided the 4500 4WD is perfect for my situation. Hey Woodbeef,

Yep, that's kind of what I thought, and Chet confirmed it in his post. (The Mahindra 4500 thru 6000's are not that much of a leap from a CUT, and the ag sized tractors, like the Zetors, do not fit the bill for everyone.) Also, the issue of Zetor's somewhat low profile, (in some areas), cause them to be not as well-known.

Chet,

I stand corrected on the specs--I was looking at the 2WD Mahindras. One question though---is the 11GPM hydraulic pump on the Mahindra dedicated to the hydraulics, or is that total flow that includes the power steering output ?

Regarding the hump-straddling issue,(this could get censored /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) are the Farmtracs that much different in that aspect than the Mahindras?
(Hey Woodbeef---you should be an expert on humps--what say you??)

Hey Dan,

The Escorts are just like the tractors they are derived from, straddle mount style. The Mahindras are closer to a flat deck than the Farmtracs. The newer Mahindras will be a flatter deck to accomodate a factory cab.

Hey Woodbeef,

Yes,the Farmtrac 45 (42hp), 60 (50hp), and the new 35's (35 hp), are like the older Ford design.
The newer Farmtrac 70 (60hp) and Farmtrac 80 (70hp 4 cylinder Perkins) are considerably different . They have a completely flat deck, syncro shuttle, and a really neat joystick lever control for the standard dual remote external hydraulics. My understanding is that all of these Farmtrac models will soon be available with 4WD and shortly thereafter we will see cabs.
Escorts Ltd., the Indian company that recently bought 100% ownership of LongAgribusiness of Tarboro, North Carolina, and is the manufacturer of the Farmtrac line, is becoming really aggressive . From the new Farmtrac 35 price leader (dealers can sell for well under $10,000-- to their new blow away financing program---it looks like they are positioning themselves to do battle with Mahindra&Mahindra.

I have had the same question about the 11 gpm on hydraulics and have not seen an answer either.
