Overall Satisfied with the 1023E Posted by John on 02/28/2013

I bought this tractor mainly for mowing, light gardening stuff and low duty loader work. It has met all my expectations and exceeded some.

I got the H120 loader (no pins!), 54D Deck with autoconnect, and added on a JD tiller by Fronteer. I built my own rotary broom and pallet forks for lifting. It seem JD makes their money on the attachments which is one reason I built some of my own things.

I have about 2 1/2 acres with grass, irrigation ditch, and garden. The loader really helps to keep ditch clean and flowing. It can get in and out of tight places, the 4wd is awesome, and loader actually does a good job for such a small tractor. I am now learning I can store things high in my garages on pallets and use the tractor to fetch them. The bucket goes on/off so easy when I switch to the pallet forks, that it is no inconvenience to store the tiller and other clunky things high out of the way. I actually created more space now than ever!

The mower goes right through the grass as expected. The auto-connect feature is awesome. However, if you are going to get a broom and want to use it in the summer, watch out. The auto-connect needs to be removed to accommodate the broom (another reason I built my own broom, as a rear mount).

I am a little disappointed I did not get the mulch kit or a grass catcher. I get a lot of trailings and I need to figure out what to do about it now. Also, it would be nice if the rollbar folded even lower or better was removeable quick connect like because I have fruit trees with low branches, it is a little extra effort to navigate even when it is folded.

The tiller is also fantastic. I used to use a big Troybuilt walk behind tank type tiller. It was good exercise. Now I am getting fat. No actually I save a lot of time and move on to other things. I didn't get the standard tiller, the dealer set me up with one they had and a good deal. It is an inch wider than the 647 tiller and will shift/offset to the side of the tractor if needed to get under trees easier. I like it.

Gotta keep a lot grease around to keep things up. This is the only tractor I ever owned so I have nothing to compare it to. Based on my limited research, I got this one because of the autoconnect and quick connect features. I am happy overall.
