This is the ripper tyne i had made from my design for removing tree stumps . The bottom hook is for tearing lateral roots and the top hooks are for pulling and pushing to loosen the stump with increased purchase compared to using the ripper tooth . The logic behind leaving the tooth unsharpened is that while it is tearing the roots its also fracturing the soil around the root stubs and loosening the stump at the same time . If it were sharpened it would quietly sever the roots without the other effects .
