I Should Have Bought This Years Ago
Model Year: 2001
2 years ago I finally bought the tractor I should have bought 13 years ago. When we bought our home in VT, I picked up a used JD 2440 (2WD) with a loader and a back blade, mostly to maintain our 1/4 mile driveway, move stone & gravel, etc. But that machine is much larger than what I need for other jobs, and the 2WD is very limiting. I finally broke down and bought a used JD 4110 (4WD hydro-static) with a loader. I expanded the hydraulics so I could use my 3-pt hitch log splitter, added a grapple and built a 54" brush rake to go with it. Then I found a used 60" belly mower, and I'm in heaven. This effortlessly mows my 2 acre lawn in 2 hours. The power steering & hydraulic lift for the mower deck is awesome! This machine handles stone and gravel much better than the larger 2440, digs better, is more maneuverable, and is generally more useful. The brush rake with grapple has greatly reduced the labor involved in cutting brush, and we cut a lot of brush here. In short, I'm very happy with this machine. But I think if I was going to start all over, I would probably go to a 25-30 hp 4WD hydro-static machine with a quick-release loader an mower-deck.
Pros: 4wd, maneuverability, power steering, mower, remote hydraulics, easy maintenance.
Cons: None really.
