I probably should clarify it was spraycans of Rustoleum farm equipment paint. At the time I didn't have access to a compressor or spray gun so I painted the entire tractor with "spray bombs" as a lot of folks call them. I'm sure even the Rustoleum would have held up better if I had used spraygun & compressor.

I stripped down my Ford 4400 over the winter have started painting parts and putting it back together as its warmed up. This time I using PPG Omni epoxy primer and straight acrylic enamel w/o hardner. I'm pretty happy with the results except for the previously mentioned long cure time on the AE w/o hardner. I painted a Bush Hog loader with the same stuff a couple of years ago and its holding up pretty good. Maybe I'll break down and buy a supplied air system one of these days so I will feel comfortable using hardner.

FWJ,

Do you use Crossfire paints & primers from NAPA? I've heard they have a good acrylic enamel but I'm wondering if they have an epoxy primer similar to Omni MP170.

Rick

I have used Crossfire. Lately I've been on a DuPont kick.... (There's a DuPont auto finish vendor about 10 minutes drive from the house....counter guy is a tractor nut....seems like a no brainer!)

well, yeah.. that does make alot of difference.

spray can paint is super thin.. looks nice and even going down.. but just doesn't have any film depth.

Guys, thanks for all the good advise. The tractor is stripped down to the body and ready for the first coat. Gotta getter down now before the metal starts to rust.
