I've had the thought that mounting a small 2.5# dry chemical extinguisher on the B2620 might be a good idea. It gets VERY dry out here and any sort of a fire could not only destroy the tractor but could start a wildfire that could easily turn into a real mess.

Anyone else have one mounted on a B model? I'd thought of mounting it on the ROPS behind the seat.

Dry chemical the way to go??

Excellent idea. Would it be enough? Who knows, but 60 sec it took me to get one didn't help a bit!

That's what I have in the cab of my B7800 (2.5 lb. dry chemical, rated 2A-10BC). Hope I never need it.

You guys think a 2.5# would be enough?

Just keep in mind that it is quite possible that you will get shot with the extinguisher before you use it to put out any fires. :D

I had a dry chemical mounted on the ROPS on my B2320 and it got caught on a limb and promptly discharged all over my back. Made a huge mess. If I haven't dissuaded you yet, at least make sure the nozzle is pointing towards the back of the tractor. :)

Typical for me...I'm WAY overthinking this already!! :D

I have imagined an "accidental discharge" so thought of possibly mounting the extinguisher INSIDE a piece of PVC pipe with a screw on cap. Or mounting it with a safety device that shields the pin and lever....a bit like the way GI hand grenades or smoke grenades are shipped.

I carry a 2.5# dry chem in the pannier of my BMW GS. Four years ago in Nevada I came upon a guy on a Harley that had leaked fuel from the lower tank fitting*, he had stopped and the bike ignited. Luckily I was less than 100 yds away....and already slowing when it ignited. We were able to keep it out long enough to crimp the fuel line with a Leathermen. It reignited, and I put it out again. We both had water and doused it with that...which helped as well.

The 2.5# was enough THAT time anyway.

* He had filled the bike with DIESEL some miles back, then removed the fitting to drain the tank. Two hours of fooling around with draining the diesel, flushing the tank, fuel into the FI, running the battery down...after a couple of jump starts it fiinally starts.

He goes about twenty miles and smells fuel...stops and WOOSH!

A new rider, out for his firsat big bike adventure. Well...he surely had one.

the pic I posted involved a 10# and two 2.5# with a mid-way call to FD. They said they could see the column of smoke a mile away. :(
