Well, I can tell you when I bought my Dmax in 06, I wanted the Ford. I liked everything about the Ford better except the engine. My boss has a 6.0 dually, well technically he had two. Ford bought back the first one as it was in the shop more than it was out and that is no joke. His second one has been in and out but definitely way better than the first. He was glad he bought an extended warranty though as he has had about $3k in repairs to it since it was out of factory warranty. He is looking at something else now as it just has been a pain and his extended warranty is going to be up soon. I really hope Ford does well with the Scorpion engine and that it ends up being problem free. I probably will never sell my Dmax as it has been fantastic, but at the same time eventually I'll want a new truck and I won't give GM any more money just on principle. I just think that as far as used trucks, the question is can you afford to take a bath if you get one of the MANY 6.0/6.4's that are problematic? If you can't, run far away from those...

Or a new diesel for that matter.....let someone else test it for you. If the scorpion works out to be a winner, I might be a buyer.

I'm looking at a 2007 F350 Lariat DRW 4x4 with 82,523 miles. It was a one owner truck. I have requested a "Oasis" report from the dealer (Ford dealer) and am looking forward to seeing it Monday when I go back there. They are ASKING $25,900 for the Ford.

I do need a truck of this caliber as I have always had diesels and basically use a truck like truck. I had a 2003 F350 7.3L PSD and traded it in with 230K miles. I currently have a 2005 Silverado 2500HD extened cad 4x4 with 93K miles.

I like the Silverado but I really miss my old F350 plus I need a crew cab now that my family is expanding (baby due anytime!). I beggining to have a rash of electrical issues but that is a whole other situation. The main thing is the need for a crew cab for pulling a 40' 5th wheel camper (12-13K pounds, give or take) with 2 dogs, wife, 7 year old, and soon a baby girl! I do pull also a 24' gooseneck hauling my various pieces of equipment around (10K pounds or so).

The bottom line is I want to know the relability history of the 2007 6.0. I know that the early models had thier share of problems. Any experiences?

According to Ford, the 6.0L was the LOWEST warranty cost engine in their entire line-up for 2006 and the 2007 trucks use the EXACT same engine, only the TRUCK model year changed, nothing else relating to the engine.

The single biggest factor for me with a 6.0L is: Did it have a "tooner", if it did NOT, then it's as good as anything. If it did/does, do not walk, but RUN AWAY!

I hope you got good ones like I have had. I think you will like it. They are really nice truck.

There is no full proof design. I had to take some hydraulic cylinders in today for some work and was talking to a friend at the shop. He has a 2007 2500 Dmax and only had the common things like leaking axle seals and tranny cooler lines. He has also had one minor engine issue covered under warranty but all in all good service. He drives 25,000 miles a year but has never towed anything bigger than a 7,000# trailer. Anyway, his brother has a 06 that has been chipped since day one and he pulls some but not a lot and a max of 12,000#. He has had the really good luck with his. The tranny went into limp mode once and a few minor things like dash lights and nickle and dime items.

His son has had a 04 F-250 and had no problems. Traded it in on a Dodge Dually Cummins and keep it about a month then decided he did not like a Dually after knocking off a fender. He then got another Ford, a 03 SRW F-350 7.3 that was trouble free but had a few leaks and he broke a axle but this truck was lifted 6" with huge tires, chipped, stacks, ect. It got totaled last month when he hit 2 deers and then a tree. To finish up the story he found a 2007 classic non DPF with 32,000miles 2500 Dmax to replace it. Its bone stock and he has had it a month and has had nothing but problems. He was telling me its not gotten better than 12mpg. They are very upset with it because the he and his brother had such good luck with the ones they had other than little items and now the kid has gotten a lemon.

I guess what I am saying here is you take your chances. They thought he was buying a proven truck in there eyes but this particular one the kid got is POS.

You do know that if you're concerned, you can put a Ford DieselCare warranty on it for 7 years or 200,000 miles for about $1200. Since I'm good friends with the Ford dealer and his top diesel tech put the ARP head studs in mine free, I sort of felt semi-obligated to buy something from him (I bought the truck from an individual who used it to tow his daughter's barrel racing horse around the country).

As I've said, I've not needed it, but I have a lot of good will built up at that dealership in case I do need something or for when I go for my next truck even though I let them know it will be another 8 years or so unless it gets crashed or something. Good luck with it. The most important part is that you bought what YOU wanted; not what faceless dingalings (yes, me included of course) behind a keyboard may have suggested. I still don't get the part where someone wants everyone else to buy what they bought. What does it matter? Worse yet, what if it's a lemon and you talked someone into getting it? Personally, I think you'll love it. ;)

is the 7.3 still in production? I know the na were about 90 to 93.5/94 and then turbo, then went to the psd.. but.. how much later? 05?

always heard they are more or less bullet proof.

Around here the biggest problem with the 7.3 is the oil pan rusting out. It's an expensive job to repair since you all but have to pull the engine. I've heard of people cutting the crossmember and welding it back in after or only lifting the engine party out to get the pan off.
