Hi guys.. there are 2 types of reuseable fittings, no-skive and skive types. It depends on the manufacture as to what type it is. On a no-skive you have to leave the outer rubber on the hose then assemble it ( some manufactures have a tool to guide the hose/fittings together and with out it they will not guarantee the assembly) and the Skive type in which you have to remove the outside rubber down to the outer layer of steel wrap (this requires a special tool to remove the rubber). Just remember that you can not interchange fitting manufactures and hose manufactures when assembling them. I have a full set of couplers in the service truck when we have to field repair hoses but i still prefer to have crimp hoses installed. Jim

I've never been told this. Is there anything documented pertaining to this?
I would think if the hose is meant to be used with a reuseable fitting,the fitting brand shouldn't matter.

42 Series Fittings
Parker No-Skive 42 Series Fittings is a field attachable (reusable) style fitting which permits quick, easy field assembly without special tools. Assembly of No-Skive hose and fittings does not require removal of outer cover of hose. This eliminates premature hose failure caused by skiving too long or short. 42 Series Fittings has zinc dichromate plating and are used with 421, 431, 436, 482TC, 482ST Hoses - the Parker Hydraulic/Braided Hoses.

NEVER interchange fittings and hoses from different manufactures..... it only takes a few thousands of an inch and you are in trouble.... ask me how i know.... we had #6 crimping die that was worn and the crimps were under pressed by less than 2 hundredth of an inch, everything was ok until we started to have failures at high pressures, the crimp ends were blowing off. You will never get a manufacture to say that it's OK to interchange, so why risk it. Hoses are different in exterior dimensions even though they are the same interior size. Jim

I don't know what you guys are yapping about?
I have used and reused many of these reusable hose ends over the years,they where more common in the past than today(i guess people where smarter back then)
A 1/2" fitting will fit a 1/2" hose of most brands,same with other size fittings and hoses.As long as it ain't metric.
On a single braid hose one usually can leave the rubber outer layer on,or skin it a wee bit.
On a double braided hose one needs to cut the rubber down to the steel.
No need for a special tool either,any sharp knife will do.
There is most times a mark on the fitting sleeve to tell how far to wittle the rubber back,no harm done if the rubber is cut back to far either,it just looks stupid.
I never had one fail yet.
Can't say the same of crimp fittings.
