Obed - Rumor has it that you are being transferred to the state where the riverfront property is located. :)

Funny, but not funny. It would fit with how his luck went over the last couple of years though. Personally though, I think fate was just directing him towards this beautiful house.:)

When we lived in the Carolinas far from the mountains, my wife and I missed the mountains greatly. That may have figured into our decision to by the river property on the Cumberland Plateau in the county where I grew up. However, we've been back home in East Tennesse for the past 4 years and have had lots of opportunities to enjoy the mountains once again. We can visit the Smoky Mountains, Cumberland Mountains, and Cumberland Plateau, all within 90 minutes or less of driving. Thus owning the plateau property does not seem as important now as it once did.

And, it's not like we live in the middle of town now. We can see the Smoky Mountains to the south from the entrance to our driveway. We can see the Cumberland Mountains (just barely) to the North from our living room. Taking a hike along the ridgeline through the woods just requires walking out our door.

Yes, the plateau property is a special piece of property and I hope the new owner enjoys it. We have lots to be thankful for.

We moved out of the camper into the house 3 weeks ago and have been having to heat the camper to prevent the water pipes from freezing. Today it was very warm so I winterized the camper.

There are two ways to winterize a camper. You can pump potable antifreeze into the water pipes or you can blow the water out of the water pipes using an air compressor. I originally chose to pumpe antifreeze into the lines. We bought 6 gallons of antifreeze in preparation. However, today when I tried to pump the antifreeze into the system using our fresh water pump, I could get no suction. I'm guessing the pump is bad. Thus I had to try plan B. I was able to buy from the local Ace Hardware store an adapter to hook an air compressor to the water system. I borrowed an air compressor from my FIL.

The first thing I did was gravity drain the hot water heater. Then I adjusted the water heater bypass valves and blew out another gallon of water using the air compressor. I went to each sink, the toilet, the shower, and the camper's low water drains and opened and closed each valve and blew the water out of the pipes. Then I added antifreeze to all the traps and poured some into the black sewage tank via the toilet.

Now I don't have to keep checking the temperature forecasts, heat the camper and drip the faucets. We now can move the two oil space heaters from the camper into the house for warming up and individual rooms if desired.

Tonight I wanted a snack, so I opened the freezer in the refrigerator and saw there was no ice cream. Thus I went into the garage, opened the chest freezer and got out some Edy's butter pecan ice cream. I went back into the kitchen and made my snack.

You might be wondering why I'm writing about such a mundane endeavor. Well for the past several years, to get something out of the chest freezer meant leaving the camper, going outside in the darkness and cold, unlocking the storage trailer, letting down the back door/car ramp, and getting the item from the chest freezer. Now I can just walk from the kitchen to the garage. This small convenience is wonderful!

My wife has been washing clothes in our new laundry room. When we lived in the camper, she had to load all our dirty clothes into the car and travel to her mom's house to wash the clothes. Before we moved back to Tennessee, my wife had to go to laundromats.

The camper provided shelter for us for many years but I sure am enjoying living in a house.

Its the little things that make a home of your own great. I appreciate having a garage the most and not scraping snow and ice of each and every morning.

Obed, would you mind taking a couple of pictures of the "oil" space heaters for me? Do you recommend them? Thank you!

Also, is the trim carpenter still interested in the camper?

Yep, you and your wife will probably enjoy your own "thousand points of light" moments living in your new home.

I've often wondered the tolls and toils of living in a camper for that long especially in a harsh winter climate. You and your wife must really and truly understand the meaning of "for better or for worse". My hat is off to you and yours Obed.

You should be on the downhill side of life with the wind at your back now.

1 more thing, Is it true that to live in the hills like you do, that 1 leg must be shorter than the other???

:licking:

Can I have some? Or did you eat it all?

That ice cream looks delicious.
