Maybe the fact that ASV recommends in their operators manual oil changes every 500 hours has something to do with it.It's just that you and another dude come over here talking about how the sky is falling. Perkins are **** good engines, just in certain mulching application such as ASV, I've heard of 20 or so early failures. Perkins is leaving these people to pay for machines that are under warrenty that they can't use until they spend alot of $$$$$ to fix. All these seem to be in ASV mulchers.![]()
I keep my equipment maintained to the extreame. We change oil every 150 hours, change air filters weekly, blow out air filters twice daily and blow the radiator out every 4 hours of operation. My machine is also equipped with a clean fix revesable fan. I am the operator!! and it was not anything we did.It is a defective engine that perkins and asv are aware of and are hoping that the volume of engines of this kind that they produce will mask the problems they are having with a certain batch of bad ones. All well and good unless you are trying to make a living and feed your family using one of the bad ones then it "sucks".

i drop the oil every 100 hrs,i think thats long enough..
500 hrs is insane,no wonder they blow up.
500 hrs on the same oil in a diesel is way to much period.500 hours is normal on ag equipment. From everything I've read its an ASV problem not a Perkins problem. My MF has an 1104T in it with 4300 hours on it, had a recall for timing gears when new but good besides that.
Cat owns PerkinsSo I haven't seen it mentioned. Is it the Chinese version made after Cat severed their partnership that are being denied warrantee? I can understand that if that is the case. If not, what is the reason given for not standing behind them?

How can it be an AVS problem when perkins build the **** engine.?
what i've heard is most times the oil pickup tube cracks or breaks off on the failed ones.

I doubt very much that ASV would've bought and installed them.I know that. And Cat went into partnership with a Chinese company to manufacture Perkins engines. After that partnership was severed by Cat, the Chinese continued the manufacturing without Cat permission. In other words. A pirated engine with inferior parts, sold as a genuine Perkins engines. All this is in a link in a previous post. I was asking if these might be the pirated engines that are being denied warrantee by Perkins.
