Becarefull if buying anything with perkins 1104-44t engine

I doubt very much that ASV would've bought and installed them.

I would hope not, but what is the reason given to deny warrantee?

Does make you wonder if ASV bought the engines from a middleman supplier.

I might be wrong but I think dodge buys cummins engines at a discount because they get no warrenty from cummins. If you buy a dodge pickup truck with a cummins, dodge pays out pocket for warranty work on the engine. I read this on the TDR website.

Anyone see the failure analysis reports from the local Perkins distributor. They should do one for every failure. Everything is just supposition until those reports are available.

ASV wouldn't buy those engines, Terex would, and I doubt that they're buying them from China. I saw the new PT100G and it still has an 1104 Tier III engine in it.

Update....just got off the phone with my local Terex dealer (Case) and the mechanic said that there is a tag on the side of the engine on both the PT100 and the new PT100g that they just got that says it is made in the UK.

perkins engines are good engines, but in a asv they running at there max they dont hold up trying produce in a mulching aplication.they need more cooling capacity imo.perkins will stand behind them to a certain extent.

I'm pretty sure that Perkins is fully aware of the applications that their engines are running in with the Terex/ASV machines. Engine OEMs must approve the range of duty that they could expect their engines to see. I don't think it's any secret to Perkins that this engine is getting used in a mulching application.

Im sure there aware of it also, they want to sell engines.the engines are not the problem im sure they are great in afarm tractor but in a asv they come pretty easy.

Digdeep is just trolling my thread, I don't know why?

He can't take it that 20 asv machines with perkins have gone out early under warenty. Where I come from that's not a myth but a $15k problem. Some people in my area have been in the mulching business for years with many machines and all of a sudden the way they maintain the asv/perkins caused the failure. I doubt it.

The perkins is a good unit, it runs fine in many other applications, even at full rated hp without problems. The ASV folks seem to be the only ones with a problem so their is either something different about this motor supplied for this app, or there is something wrong with the machine in how the motor is used/cooled.

Have you read this thread? Loose engine mount bolt drained oil, ruined motor.

I'm not sure a loose engine mount has anything to do with Perkins not providing warranty on an engine failure. I would tend to think that the loose bolt would fall on the factory's shoulder.

I don't know how many RC/PT100s ASV has built over the years, but I would have to think it would be well over 4-5000 units since they came out in the early 2000s, of which half were probably put into brush cutting. If this is the case, the 20 failures that heavyduty so eagerly points out as failing would amount to a 0.8-1% failure rate; hardly an amount that consitutes an engine problem. That's assuming that all 20 units that he speaks of actually failed due to a defect. I may not be in the mulching business, but I sold over 1,000 machines in my career with Bobcat, and I think we can all agree that not all customers prescribe to the same level of preventive maintenance on their machines. In fact, many of them don't do much maintenance at all. JMHO
