Is there a reason no one puts shocks on trailers?

Cost is the only reason I can think of also. We have put them on as a addition.

My toy hauler trailer came with shocks...

It would be an option that I would be willing to pay for.

If you have air ride on the trailer shocks are a must. Other trailers usually have overrated stiff springs compared to trucks so you don't get the bounce that shocks are ment to slow.

I've bought three new travel trailers and all had shocks as optional. I bought my present 5th used and with rubber axles it doesn't need shocks. I can put a box of groceries in the middle of the vinyl floor and after several hundred kilometers, it hasn't moved. On one trailer I had, I would always find the TV on the floor near the front. Even after putting it in the bathtub it wound up on the floor. I had to bolt it down. I should have ordered the shocks on that one.

With leaf spring, or rubber torsion, shocks arent necessary because of the internal friction of the spring element which slows down the oscillation. With torsion steel, coil or air suspension, it is required because these suspensions dont have enough friction to stop the bounce.
Also, at my former employer we used to put them standard on the front axle of slew ring (hay wagon style) two and three axle trailers.
Horse trailers may have them as well, because of extra comfort.

I purchased a 30 foot long Jayco travel trailer new, it had mounts for shocks but none were installed. If I recall right, the dealership parts department quoted me $30 each for their shocks. I measured the distance between the shock mounts and went to the local Monkey Ward store where I knew one of the parts counter guys in the automotive department. He found a shock the exact size I needed (stud mount) for $10 each. They had a lifetime warranty, fat lot of good that does me now with Wards bankrupt. The shocks really cut down on the bouncing and I am sure they reduced tire wear also.

Disagree that leaf springs don't need shocks...to me that kind needs them most of all. Other wise why did Ford put them on my F150 pickup with rear leaf springs?
