Johnbro have you checked your rear tires? Mine came set in the narrow position. If yours are too it will make the tractor a lot more tippy than if set to the wide position.

You must be out of your mind, carrying two tubes of liquid nails that far out front:) Glad no damage was done.

You had the solution all along , just put a bead or two of the liquid nails on the rear tires ! R4 or turf work the best for this !

When you are using your loader to transport a load on level ground, the safest thing you can do is take it OUT if 4 WD... Using 2wheel drive, you will get the early warning that the rear is unloading... You loose traction and know you need to do something different... KennyV

Those 12 ft boards don't help your balance, either. If you pick them up even a little bit off dead center, it can be enough to get things tipping.

Keeping in mind the front axle is on a pivot,

all it takes is a slight dip or off-level ground and the front wants to start rotating to one side. It's quite amazing how little weight it takes to get in trouble when you put it farther out in front or to the side. A lesson for all... glad you are OK.

Why do they do that with tractors ?

To keep 4 wheels on the ground, most of the time..
Unlike a truck or car, tractors have no suspension. They are a rigid axle to frame system.

Most of the time a tractor is not on dead flat ground... the pivot on the front allows the front axle to dip into the low or high spots from side to side... KennyV

I once saw one of those square bale hay wagons - fully loaded - that had cut a corner short and dropped a rear wheel into the ditch. Since there was no give in the axles, it did a nice job of twisting the frame under the wagon platform. Same thing would happen with a tractor if all the wheels were rigid. It would also be one bouncy ride going over any kind of rough ground.

I've wondered the same thing, but I think some of you are missing the key point: Why is there no suspension on the front axle? THAT alone would help keep the front axle wheels in contact. Suspension/lack thereof is the main difference between truck and tractors (well, for one...)

I own a couple of tandem axle dump trucks that were used in a hauling business we operated. They are designed to operate with a gross vehicle weight in excess of 50,000 lbs. (vehicle + payload); the empty weight of each truck is in the 21,000 to 24,000 lb range. Naturally, they have springs suitable to carry the full 50,000+ lbs. and, when empty, they ride like a bucking bronco (i.e. the springs don't do much because they are so heavy duty). Now that's a weight variance of 100% between empty and full.

Now consider your L3130, which is capable of operating with maybe a 300 or 400% weight variance on the front axle. How much do you think it would cost for the manufacturer to come up with a suspension system that would provide increased stability over that great a dynamic load range? It could be done, but I'm thinking it would be complex and likely add a lot to the cost of the tractor.

I'd agree it would be quite an innovation if someone did manage to produce a workable and affordable tractor suspension, but I'm not expecting it any time soon.

Glad you are alright, thank you for posting as there is always a lesson to share from a near miss.
I am always a little rusty after a long winter and tend it take it easy for a while until I get back in the grove. I have found just taking a minute (Particularly on non rotine stuff) and thinking about things before I perform them really can make a difference. Ya go home safe.
