Mowing 2520 and the first mow.

Well I got to use the tractor for the first time to mow. I absolutely love it. Took the loader and ballast box off. The 2520 is now lite on her feet (Turfs ) I was skeptical of ground compaction as the ground is very soft from all the rain. After I adjusted the independent lift height and wheels for scalping I hit the lawn.

First thing I noticed about the 2520 is how quiet she gets when you raise the rpm's. The diesel rattle at idle disappears as soon as you increase the throttle. I engaged the mower just off idle and spooled the girl up to 2500 rpm's. Smooth as silk.

The turning radius of this tractor is very impressive. Turns on a dime for such a mid sized tractor. John Deere hit a home run with the 2520.

Good to hear!! I'm still a little nervous about cutting with mine when it comes in. I think I will be doing some bucket work 1st to try and hold the scalping to a minimum. I talked to the dealer today and we are hopefully going to have a Saturday delivery..... :thumbsup: Never having a diesel before it will take some getting used to running it up to that 2500 rpm mark. I guess other than that you can putt around on it at lower rpm??

I have gotten in a few mowings on my new 2520 with the 62d deck and have been very happy... No scalping at all. The key is to set your desired mowing height and then adjust the height of the anti-scalp wheels so that they float just above the ground, and touch the ground only on uneven turf.

You should be fine mowing. I was like you, Skeptical to have such a heavy tractor doing the mowing. I think the large tires are a big part of dividing the weight evenly. The deck took a few minutes of adjusting to get the proper height I wanted to match the cut height of my push mower. I did one pass on the roughest part of my lawn to adjust the wheels so the deck wouldn't scalp the lawn. I set them low enough to stop the scalpping but not so low they were always riding on the ground holding the deck up.

Now I can't wait to get the time to add my concrete and PVC pipes to my ballast box. I have everything sitting in my garage waiting for me to complete the task but now its raining, "AGAIN" !

Once I get my pallet forks from Chris (ensoll) I have a nice rock I want to set in the front yard..

That's why I got rid of my cub cadet garden tractor. (Trading it in) after I test drove the 2520 I couldn't believe how tight it turned, add the power steering and man what a difference. I think that big tractor will turn just as sharp as the cub mower. (At least it seemed like it).....

Do you have a quick disconnect bucket so you can add your forks? I was looking at some but a bit pricey for me.....

Yes I do have a quick disconnect bucket. Go to www.artillian.com and check out the ones I bought. Chris makes some very nice & lite quick connect forks. Factory forks are around 385lbs where Chris's forks are around 210lbs or so. A big savings in weight which let's you lift more.

Yeah they look good, just a bit much for me right now. I have to get a rear blade that offsets tilts and angles 1st. Trying to figure out if the Med. blade from everything attachments will work on the IMatch set up??

Something that I like to do is this....When I mow, I start out by trimming all around shrubs and trees and gardens that are in the yard with the push mower. Set it either higher or lower than that of your tractor with deck.

It makes for a beautiful finish.:thumbsup:
