Thermostart

So, I understand from the Operator's Manual that a feature called 'Thermostart' is an option on my tractor. How do I tell if I actually have it?

You'll notice a small translucent plastic cup with lid mounted in the air toward the front of your engine. You fill it with diesel. turn the key to the left for 10-15 seconds, engage the compression release to get the engine spinning fast when you turn the key, let go of the compression release once the engine is turning over fast, and hopefully, she fires up on them cold days!!!

Storm -- if you could post a picture, that would be great.

This is my first diesal engine; do I need to consider a block heater for starting her up in the winter? It gets pretty chilly here in Ohio in January.

Storm probably has a better picture but here is one on my 2002. The ts on the ignition switch stands for thermal start. The red light to the left of the switch lights up when the thermo start is active. Yours may or may not have this.

Winston1 -- thanks, good to know. Does the TS make all the difference for starting when it's 0 degrees out?

A block heater or Katz heater is a nice thing to add for cold starting. IMO, it's a better option than a thermostart. Up here in the north, on the coldest of days, only needs to be plugged in for a couple of hours. Never used my thermostart.

But I have left equipment plugged in all night because I was getting up early.

Don't have a clue about 0 degrees outside. All I know is it works good at about 25 degrees. Brrrrrr!
