Hey All,

Two questions on CAT 1 post hole diggers.

First, how are these for SCUT's? I rented a one man operated post hole digger and it did the job, but was a killer to use (45 holes and I felt it the next 4-5 days). I think I saw a post a year ago saying PHD for SCUT's were not that good, but can't recall exactly.

Second question, I don't have a big enough need to justify buying a new one (saw prices starting around $800 and up from there), any thoughts on second ones? Are these the kind of item that takes a beating and used ones are generally in bad shape, or they are good as second hand units?

Thanks
Franco

I have a NH TZ25DA SCUT and use a Woods PHD-25 and I'm very happy with it. I had no issues with power and I would think a used unit if in good shape would be fine.

Land Pride makes a PHD sized for the BX series. That's the way I'd go, just so the 3PH high/low position match the PHD.

I have the Leinbach 7200JR for my BX24 and it matches up perfectly. It came with a 9" auger and I then purchased a 12" auger and both work fine.

Unless abused, I see no reason to not buy a used one. If you buy used, as soon as you get it, I would recommend changing the gearbox oil just to make sure.

Go ahead and get one.....they do make digging holes easier.

Just be carful not to screw the tractor into the ground (You'll figure out what I mean the first time you do it:).

And make sure you have a big pipe wrench on hand :)
