When we had horses and cattle on a couple of occasions they got out..once the cattle got out and went into a neighbors garden...he was kind enough to call me at my office and I drove to the farm and he helped me round them up and get them back through the break in my fence , which I promptly repaired. Another time my big Gelding got loose and another neighbor helped me get him back...I have helped other neighbors retrieve their animals from time to time...This is over a 40 yr. period on the farm...

Neighbor's ten pigs escaped one day, and ended up rooting up the sides of my drive way at the top. Called him and he left work, took awhile but we got the pigs rounded up and back in the pen. Didn't want anything to happen to any of them as one would be in my freezer shortly. Best part got to box blade were they tore up, to smooth out. I guess you can say I saved my neighbors bacon:laughing:

Folks don't act like this in my part of the Wheat State. Out here if you cannot deal constructively with visiting animals then your life will be difficult. Sad commentary, build a fence.

I've had my cows get out my fair share of times, and also had to help my neighbors put their cows back home, and I don't think that we've ever gotten that worked up about it, dogs or not.

Practically everybody that has livestock will have them get out, sooner or later. Maybe the "clown" was being rude; however, I would agree that it seems as though a calmer course of action would be to put the cat inside and see if I could be of help to the "clown".

All of this goes along with this being the first offence - if animals are out repeatedly, that's a different scenario.

As far as a lack zoning laws, I just accept that as part of country living. We often say the best part about living in the country is that you can do whatever you want to (within reason); the worst part is so can your neighbors.

In the end, I commend CarDoc for not shooting a dog that really didn't deserve it, but at the same time am a bit curious as to why the situation had to be so confrontational to start with.

Wow for being such an animal lover you don't show it maybe that clown won't be so nice to you if any of your cats go on to his place

So, are you assuming he was drunk? Did anyone ever mention to you what assume means?

I had a neighbours horse wonder onto my property about a month ago. Sure it walked and grazed grass all over the place. No big deal. It will all grow back. I went out and caught it. Brought it into my paddock. Long story short after a week of caring for the horse I located the owner and trailered the horse back to their property. They were so very grateful to have their daughter's horse back safe and sound. They gave me $100 to cover my costs. They gave me their sincere thanks. I had the pleasure of meeting a new neighbor. Being neighborly is very rewarding.

No I did not assume he was drunk just buzzed which affects how you handle situations. Cant argue with that. Like I said I knew it would make some mad when I said it

The "clown" is a person I am well acquainted with I dont want to be his friend or help him in any way he has already cost me plenty another long story...

As far as escalating the situation well that could be said of almost any situation I choose to defend my self and my property and I have the right to do so I wont lay down for anyone and let them walk over me.

Like I mentioned we have a serious problem in my area with horses and cattle running loose a long time running we ALL are tired of it!!!

Its not a dairy or a bunch of friendly neighbors with errant critters or nobody would care its a class of people who abuse animals and exploit them at the local horse race track 10 miles out in the county on private property does that clear anything up?
