1958. The kitchen hasn't been remodeled since. Can you say "Mama isn't happy?"

The first house I lived in was built in 1935 out of lumber from a house in the French Quarter that was built in 1810. Rough cut 2x4s measure 2 1/2" X 4 1/2" roughly. 2x6s, 2x8s and 3x12s are similar. Impossible to replace a board without having it specially made.

The house I live in now was built in 1935 out of lumber that they got when Willswood plantation was torn down. 2x4s measure 2 x 4". Same with the larger boards. Very hard to replace boards.

We bought our first house in 1968 and it was supposedly built in 1950. It's been added to since, but is still there.

We had a new house built in 1972. It's also had a room added on since and is still there.

We had another new house built in 1977. It's stil there and other than a different color paint on the trim, I suppose it hasn't changed.

We bought our current house in 2005, and it was built in 1991, so this year it's 20 years old. It was apparently re-modeled in 1999, since it had a 1999 HVAC system (replaced with a new one in 2010) and the kitchen range, dishwasher, and microwave were all made in 1999 (appeared new and unused when we bought the place in 2005).

Built in 2008. Haven't lived in it yet. Just get to visit and keep it up for now.

Being extremely disappointed with current construction I designed and built my home in 2009 using my ideas of how things should be done. Among my methods were 12" thick concrete basement walls and 2x6 walls, as well as 2x12 rafters and overgenerous use of lvl's. I am extremely happy with the results and enjoy a good laugh when the weatherman predicts wind gusts in the 70mph range.
