I think the OP has every right (read "is entitled") to expect an alternator to not fail on a new tractor. And should it happen, he is certainly entitled to anger/concern when the dealer and the manufacturer who built, sold and profited from his purchasing of their product seem to fall back on the "s**t happens" philosophy. The difference between good and poor service is how they make things right. IMO - these guys are not doing the best they can to make it right. Ask those guys at Penn State about doing what you have to vs doing what you should do ....

Thank you, well said.

Wouldn't be corporate greed...or even ourselves for picking imported products off the shelf, just because they are cheaper (not better) instead of paying a little more for American made products.
Blaming the unions and people with better paying jobs is NOT the answer and is NOT the cause of our sick economy.

I would say it is not the ONLY cause, just a major component, along with polititians

Yup, that's what I mentioned to, it'll get you by in a pinch, no need to run all day, you will get several starts from a full battery.

But that's assuming that his only problem is that the alty is not charging, if it's a complex issue with a short or open etc. it might not work.
With the modern machine it might not start/run if you disconnect the alt.

JB

and if it is one of those "other" things, I hope it does not fry the new alternator and they have to wait for ANOTHER one to arrive

Seems like these days everybody wants to respond to any little thing with anger.

Maybe we should all just breathe a little bit and take it easy. It's not the end of the world. You didn't get cancer, your kids didn't get kidnapped, your house didn't burn down, see what I mean?

Don't sweat the small stuff. It's a tractor, for crying out loud:)

Not to belabor a point but that comparison is not even legitimate. It's not small stuff if you need the tractor. And holding a company accountable for its actions (or inactions) particularly when you've purchased an expensive product from them is not something outrageous and perhaps is one of the problems plaguing our modern society. Nobody's held accountable - especially after the check's been cashed.

I already deleted one post on this, but here I go again, I think in this case I have to agree with Johnbro. I don't believe the OP is depending on this machine for his livelihood or any significant inconvenience is being encountered.

In 50+ years of operating tractors and yes some for my livelihood, I have had to wait on parts and repairs and the amount of time described here does not even come close to the amount of down time I have had nor that which farmers in my area experience.

It seems to me, that some of this is being blown way out of proportion; stuff happens.

Fire away, I can take it.
