Great info in the recent coyote thread. Several mentioned carrying a "walking stick". Do you stick folks fashion your own, or is there something commercial that's available you can recommend?

I have always just found a likely little tree.. I had an old sassafras one for many years. Post oak would be good I would think Hickory maybe better... but anything would be better than getting bit... Of course they say that almost any gun is better than a sharp stick:laughing:

I don't know how I ever beat Bird on this post, but I'm sure he's gonna recommed a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Walking-Cane-Chestnut-hardwood-authentic/dp/B002O5TBAO"]Bubba-Stik[/ame].:D About anything you whack with that hame ball on the end of the stick will be convinced to go away.

Also, a popular wood for walking sticks here in Texas is Crape Myrtle.

James that is not a bad idea, MAYBE, so if an human comes at you, and you put up the cane they will grab it, unknowingly, they are grabbing the sheath to a sword, they will unsheath your weapon for you BUT, they now have a staff...

It's cool no matter.

I actually do wood carvings and one of my favorite things to make are walking sticks. I have made them with eagles, deer, raccoons, hummingbirds and other things. I can't think of the exact length off the top of my head(50'' or so).

My buddy ordered a "walking stick" from the USA...

It is a cane/stick with a 24-30" high carbon 1055 steel blade inside, sharpened both sides...

I think that in some States, that would be considered a "concealed weapon"? Perhaps, it would be in the Buyer's best interest to check in regards their State Law Enforcement Statues. There may be also local ordinances to consider. Just a thought? The reason that I mentioned this, is because a fellow worker of mine years ago had one behind the seat of his pickup and he was charged and convicted.
