The weather was finally right for some seat time on the Deere. I had a three tree oak that was starting to show signs of disease so rather than chance it falling on my kids 2k swingset I took action. All in all about 3hr between felling and stump removal. Here's some pics for your viewing pleasure. Last pic is the kiddies in the crater.

Nice ! :). The girls are darlings for sure. Good job, why take a chance and let it smash your girls playset. Clean the dirt out of the stump and make a table, the sell it for the price of the tractor. :D be surprised what yuppies will buy.

Thanks, I'm actually going to sell the wood. The logs are about 18" and they're all of 75' each. I've given away so much oak, since I have no fireplace. The stump is going to the wood recyling yard. They'll grind it up and color it for mulch. The swing set hasn't arrived yet but I'm sure the deere will be pivotal in it's installation.

Matt,
Looks like fun! Diggin' in the dirt! :D: You've got some pretty girls there, too.

Should post some pics of my Sunday projects... Cutting down some trees to keep the starving moose outta my hay barn!

Had a 3-year old cow INSIDE one of our hay sheds. That's exciting! How to get a cornered moose back outside without 1.) getting stomped or 2.) having the moose break a leg or something.

Everything did work out... she jumped those 5' panels like a gazelle! Pretty funny to see such a bulky, awkward looking creature be so graceful! And FAST!

Nice to see dirt and green grass. Thanks for the pics.

Nice job, Matt!!.... A Grapple sure saves a lot of time!!... I don't have one, But been planning to build one!... I hate trying to pick up a big stump with the bucket and then have to chain it in!

.. Wish I lived near you to get some of that Oak!!!:D... BTW.. You have some pretty girls there too!!:)

Matt, Since you don't have a fireplace... Have you thought about putting in one of the Hot-Blast wood-stoves that TSC sells ??

I bought one for my home and love it!!... I built a building on the end of my home to put it in, Then connected 10" duct-work to the duct-work of my home!:)... On a cold day I only have to load it with wood about 4/5 times!... I'm heating my home, 3 car garage and my welding shop with it!!

I can show you a picture of the wood-stove if you are interested.

AK, a 50 cal revolver would probably handle the moose problem.

JD4300, I was looking into a outdoor wood boiler a few years back but couldn't get the permiting. I also looked into an add on wood boiler but have a power vent and no chimeny so that was a no go also.

Steve, I did have a smile on my face the entire time except when felling one of the tree's. It was leaning the wrong way from where I needed it to fall.
I ended up putting the hoe up high and pushing hard while I cut my notches.
The back cut was a bit hairy due to a slight wind. But I just kept the hoe pressure on and cautiously made my cut. They all fell exactly where I wanted them.

The girls had as much fun playing in the crater as I did creating it.
They were quite disappointed when they came home from a play date yesterday to find daddy had filled it in.
