1961 Ford 4030 - Clutch Problem?

sherman did make a reverser... rare though. probably made alot of forklift converted machines happy..

I don't think the transmission is stuck. It shifts through all the gears, and when I had it jacked up, the rear wheels moved faster when I was in a higher gear. It's still strange to me that the wheels want to turn in the wrong direction...

I should have my shop manual in a couple days. I'll start by taking a look at the clutch, I guess.

And another thing...

I didn't think anything of it at the time, but when I was testing it today, I seem to remember that the PTO shaft turned counterclockwise. Now tonight I've seen a few discussions that indicate the PTO shaft should turn clockwise. True?

DID YOU TEST THE PTO WITH THE TIRES ON THE GROUND AND THE TRACTOR IN GEAR???

I think you may have an Auxiliary Reverser Trasmission. It is a seperate trasmission that could be later added on. It would be located in your bellhousing with its own shift lever coming out the side. A reverser trasmission WOULD reverse the PTO direction when in reverse.

Just to be clear, if you have a reverser aux. trans., and it is in reverse, you would go forward if your main trasmission was in reverse (but the pto would still spin backwards)

ps.. many of those aux trannies have a neutral position too!

I was thinking that too SG. The aux. tranny could be inbetween gears too. That would be a whole lot better for the OP than any of the alternatives.

So, back to the clutch. Did you do what I said?
