Possom in and on our Grill on the Deck ! Now what ?

No matter what you say or how much logic you use, your grill is now "possum contaminated" in your wife's mind. Keep peace in the family. Go buy a new grill grate and then seal it off so no more critters can threaten your happy home.;)

In these situations, it only matters what one person thinks, and it ain't Jim :p

Maybe build a grease-resistant storage box for your grates?

OK Jim...You obviously know my wife...LOL....You are exactly right...I am going to have to buy and seal...that is my only solution, in fact we are going to HD tomorrow to buy new grates for the grill....You are clairvoyant....LOL

Thanks Guys for all the advice...and I agree...for my sake I would be happy with burning them off....I tried telling my Mrs. that for all we know all kinds of critters have visited our grill over the years...It was a no go....this one she saw and he was nasty looking....so the grates gotta go....Thanks again for all the help....

Three things:
1) Clean your grill every time before you use it by setting it on high for 15 minutes, then scrub off the ashes of whatever was on your grates with a wire brush.
2) Possums are slow. Catch or trap him and put him in a cage.
3) Possums are scavengers. Feed him corn for 3-4 days to clean him out before you eat him.:licking::eek:

*shakes head NO to #2* trap only, have seen possums in action, and they can be one mean dangerous critter. when ya piss them off.

as far as wifey, i would say tuff. and keep on grilling as much as i could on grill using the same grill/grate. just do not bring up the critters.

have had, mice, rats, birds, bees, wasps, most likely snakes, to other go through grills here. heck have a tripod grate. that fits over a wood fire. for camping. and the grate just sets out side. for years, just used a i want to say 3 feet diameter grate from a old grill. and placed a 4 bricks under it. to hold it over a wood fire. and grill just sat outside right were any animal could access the grate. between weeks or months between uses.

putting grill over a hot fire (nice coals), or turning grill all the way up for about 15 minutes, and using wire brush. to clean the grate up, is only thing that has ever been done. exception taking some foil. vs wire brush. or perhaps putting a bowl with some water and soap in it. and putting wire brush in it quickly and then quickly move wire brush back on to grate, to scrub it some while grate was still hot.

If you have a weed burner, you might be able to satisfy your wife by propping up the grill on some rocks, saturate the dirt below with diesel and light the whole thing off with a weed burner. Lots of impressive fire.

I feel your pain. A few years ago we soaked a deer heart and liver in brine in a cooler. No matter how many times I soak it in in bleach, DW refuses to touch it. She bought a new one and wrote her name on the top. I wrote "deer parts" on the old one...

That's when my spouse asks me; "What happened?", after she hears, dogs barking, me hollering and cussing, gunshots, and tailgates slamming, then the shower running, and the dogs panting, at 3am in the middle of the night.

I just say; "Oh nothing" in a "sing-song" kind of way, as I hit the sheets and say "Good Night Honey"..

She knows, if I say that, she's better off not knowing, and everything works out fine, "It's all good" as they say.

OK guys, here is the deal, I just checked with the wife on the possum situation.. she said.. I would thoroughly scrape, then disinfect it with bleach and run the fire on it on high for 15 to 20 minutes, and She would be good to go with flopping a piece of meat on it and eating it. She mentioned by her self that you never know how many mice might have run across the thing anyway in the store and especially stored outside (like ours is). So there you go..:cool2:
