Possom in and on our Grill on the Deck ! Now what ?

OK guys, here is the deal, I just checked with the wife on the possum situation.. she said.. I would thoroughly scrape, then disinfect it with bleach and run the fire on it on high for 15 to 20 minutes, and She would be good to go with flopping a piece of meat on it and eating it. She mentioned by her self that you never know how many mice might have run across the thing anyway in the store and especially stored outside (like ours is). So there you go..:cool2:

Wow, my wife would have to have a whole brand new grill. Of course there are some things I don't tell her about, like the time I found a snake in the basement.

Our dog , a Brittany, was having a fit today on our deck and when my Mrs. went to see what he was barking at she saw the heavy lid on our Grill bouncing and a bushy tail...She came and got me....I opened the grill lid with a broom handle...never know what could jump out :) So there on the grill sat a Juvenile...like a teen age Possum eating crumbs off the grill rack....I tried to shoo him with the broom and he just looked at me...no hissing...just looked and ignored me.. I left him there with the lid open sitting on the grate while I took a shower....when I came back he was gone...

Now my wife wants to buy new grates for the grill since the possum was eating off of them....they were scraped clean so he could not have gotten anything but some oil or the taste....still the Mrs. does not believe I can ever get it sterile enough for her to eat off of....I think the possom will return....and I see no way to keep him out....I already had hardware cloth at the bottom of the grill where there were some openings...he got around those...sharp teeth and claws....he will do it again...so I will have to keep buying new grates....I don't think so....these grates are too big for the dishwasher...Any ideas on super cleaning them except Heat and soap and hot water...? Is that enough...soap , hot water and then burn them off good on the grill ? What would you guys do ? Don't want to catch any diseases from a possum...especially rabies...:confused2:

Bouncing .... and I see a bushy tail, poked with a broom and he didn't hiss, never seen a possum with a bushy tail. All possum I have poked with something hissed. Now I have seen many a raccoon with a bushy tail. Raccoons are like cats they can get in some impossible places. I think you had a Raccoon for a visitor.

blood meal sprinkled around will deter the possum and 'coons from your area.

and yes.. while possum can carry diseases like leprosy and well rabies.. both of those will be killed with a bleach cleaning.. then running the grill hot. nothing i know of stands up to the last part.. :)

Opossums are one of the most filthy creatures on the face of the Earth. Just buy some new grates and then find a way to Opossum proof the grill. Like they say, if Wifey ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Fire will clean the grates but it will not clean the mental images of that creature's filthy body contacting the same surface as my burger...ACK :burger:

The adage "What they don't know won't hurt em" does not work here. Momma knows and she ain't happy. So off the to the store you go. Be sure to take the truck, because when get there and find out they don't stock the right size grate you want the next step is replace the grill. Heck that creature got untold hair, lice, and what not on the reat of the hood. Then as you head out the door with your new grill, she smiles and you and says " happy birthday hon" 2 months early. :)
